Founded in 1993, Deokhwa Food has specialized in pollock roe (myeongnan-jeot) only. Its founder, the late Chairman Jang Seok-jun, spent decades preserving and improving pollock roe and became the first certified master craftsman in the seafood field. Today every Deokhwa product is premium thanks to his dedication. His successors carry on his passion and have modernized Deokhwa's systems — including the practices required by Korea's HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) — to ensure thorough hygiene and safety.

Deokhwa is also a major supplier in Japan, the world's largest pollock roe market, and from 2009 to 2015 it was a key supplier to Japan's 7-Eleven group for seven years.

On November 29, 2019, Deokhwa signed an MOU with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) in Korea, joining a global commitment to environmentally friendly and ethical food processing and distribution, and it continues to grow steadily.
