Winner of "Product of the Year" at the 2nd MSC Korea Awards!

The 'Best Product' award, which Deokhwa Food won at the MSC Korea Awards for the second time in a row, goes to the company that sold the most kinds of MSC ecolabel products in Korea during the fiscal year (April 1 – March 31). In 2019 Deokhwa Food became the first company in Korea's pollock roe industry to earn MSC CoC certification, and it renews this certification every year to produce sustainable, ecolabeled pollock roe products. To sell ecolabeled seafood, a company must pay 0.5% of annual sales as a logo license fee in addition to holding MSC CoC certification, and Deokhwa's back-to-back awards recognize these efforts to protect the marine environment and support sustainable fishing. We plan to put the MSC mark on all our products soon, turning the logo license fee into a contribution to environmental protection.

In 2022, Deokhwa Food's CEO Jang Jong-su became the first person in pollock roe production to be named a 'Korean Master of Fisheries Food.' Following that with back-to-back MSC Korea Awards is an indescribable joy and honor for a small regional seafood manufacturer. Above all, now that the climate crisis is felt as part of daily life rather than a distant future disaster, it was a precious moment that reconfirmed our past efforts to protect the marine environment and support sustainable fishing were not in vain — and that this path is well worth continuing.

As a company devoted to researching and making only pollock roe, and properly, we are simply grateful that our small efforts — to carry on the history and culture of pollock roe, cut off when pollock and roe fishing grounds disappeared from the Korean Peninsula — have been recognized. We are proud of this experience, but we will not become complacent; we will use it as a driving force to work even harder on our collaboration with MSC and on living sustainably.
